Prediction of Rubble-Stone Masonry Walls Response under Axial Compression Using 2D Particle Modelling

چکیده

To predict the structural behaviour of ancient stone masonry walls is still a challenging task due to their strong heterogeneity. A rubble-stone modeling methodology using 2D particle model (2D-PM), based on discrete element method proposed given its ability crack propagation by taking directly into account material structure at grain scale. Rubble-stone (ancient) tested experimentally under uniaxial compression loading conditions are numerically evaluated. The numerical models generated from close mapping process units and mortar surfaces. calibration procedure for stone-stone mortar-mortar contacts experimental data presented. studies show that 2D-PM wall can formation cracks, initial stiffness maximum load obtained in traditional walls. reduce simulation times, it shown lateral adopting coarser discretization viable option these with confinement identified as an important micro-parameter, influences peak strength ductility rubble-masonry loading.
